The National Association of Triads, Inc., a subsidiary of the National Sheriffs’ Association, announced its partnership with 911 Cell Phone Bank, an international cell phone recycling company. Under this partner agreement, NATI will promote 911 Cell Phone Bank’s 911 emergency cell phone program, the 911 Cell Phone Bank, to Triads, sheriffs’ offices and other law enforcement agencies nationwide.
The 911 Cell Phone Bank provides both funds and 911 cell phones to local Triads for use in their programs. Participating Triads simply collect cell phones in their community and send them to 911 Cell Phone Bank for processing. 911 Cell Phone Bank determines the best use for all donated cell phones. Higher value cell phones are converted to cash which is returned to the local Triad. Lower value functioning cell phones are added to the “Bank” of 911 cell phones which are made available, at no charge, to Triads as needed. In addition, for each valued cell phone received by 911 Cell Phone Bank, a donation will be made to NATI for ongoing program support.
NATI Director Ed Hutchison sees great value in this new partnership. “Several Triads across the country are already operating their own independent 911 cell phone program,” said Hutchison. “Participation in the 911 Cell Phone Bank will allow them to focus on helping seniors, not testing cell phones or charging batteries”.
In the two years that the 911 Cell Phone Bank has been in operation, more than $250,000 has been returned to public agencies, and more than 2,000 911 cell phones have been distributed every month.
“We’re excited about the partnership” said James Mosieur, Director of 911 Cell Phone Bank. “We are confident we can help provide much needed funds and emergency phones while relieving the administrative burden on overtaxed Triads nationwide.”
There is no cost to participate in the 911 Cell Phone Bank program and all Triads, sheriff’s offices, and law enforcement agencies are eligible. For more information visit:
