If you suspect you've been hooked by a phisher, act immediately .

If you provided account numbers, passwords, or PINs to a phisher, notify the companies with whom you have the accounts right away. For information on how to put a "fraud alert" on your files at the credit reporting bureaus and other advise for ID theft victims, contact the Federal Trade Commission's ID Theft Clearinghouse by calling toll-free 877-438-4338. The TDD number is 202-326-2502. Even if you didn't get hooked, you should report phishing by contacting the National Fraud Information Center/Internet Fraud Watch. Visit www.fraud.org or call toll-free 800-876-7060, TDD 202-835-0778. You should also tell the company or agency that the phisher was imperdonating. The information you provide helps to stop identity theft.

The CASE Against Elder Fraud: Exploring a successful model

New Online Resource - The Office for Victims of Crime announces the launch of a new e-bulletin, Partnering With Faith Communities To Provide Elder Fraud Prevention, Intervention, and Victim Services. It describes the Communities Against Senior Exploitation (CASE) program, which was developed to address the problem of elder fraud. The program began in Denver, Colorado, and is now being replicated throughout the nation.

Highlights - The authors write that as people are living longer, there likely will be more elderly entering the nation's courthouses with serious underlying problems or conditions "that will impede effective access and court processes." necessitating enhanced linkages with community partners. Analyzing how the courts perceive these issues and exploring how they have begun to address them, they conclude with an argument in support of innovative new approaches to assist courts in responding to emerging issues of older adults.
